Rock the Square et al…
by pauline on Aug.25, 2009, under Undiscovered
Saturday at Churchill Square was not quite what I expected…
In the mid afternoon, the square was pretty empty.
With so many festivals and events happenning in town, it should have come as no surprise.
Needless to say, it was still a lot of fun and it was also a great opportunity to hear Nathan Brown and Vanessa Kay perform their long anticipated duet.
Singing Hometown Glory, Nathan and Vanessa charmed the onlookers in Churchill Square with their stellar vocals!
The stage just loves these two – for those of you who do not know, Vanessa was eliminated way too early from the Undiscovered competition, and Nathan was the second place winner in the competition.
These two not only are the picture perfect duet, they also sound it! Can’t wait to hear more from these two vocal prodigies – I kid you not!
On the stage as well on Saturday, Ana Bogdanov with a triple play acoustic session. Loved it!
Khaled Rahime, Rhyse Reyes, Nathan Brown and yours truly rounding out the roster that afternoon.
Oh yes, and a shout out to the host of the event and of Undiscovered Edmonton – Charlie Mrech!
Despite some technical difficulties, it was a great opportunity to sing on an open stage in a large venue.
Thanks to the Rock the Square event and to everyone who was a part of the event.
Also a shoutout to Allison & Kessie for coming down and cheering us all on! Love u guys!
I think even the pigeons enjoyed the show!
As for me, I’m going through some major changes in the next while, but I will keep everyone updated with what is new and exciting via the blog.
Oh yes, I have to send a shout out to my friends Shannon & Darren – I had a great time at their place Saturday nite and even got to do a few impromptu songs with the band they hired for the nite! So much fun!

The finale…with a few suprises!
by pauline on Aug.06, 2009, under Undiscovered
The last night of Undiscovered Edmonton was phenomenal.
Noella, Nathan and Jessica were all at the top of their game and brought the most amazing performances to date to the stage at the Docks.
Jessica with her varied outfit changes and moves were total crowd pleasers.
Nathan, ah, what can we say, Nathan your voice as always never fails to melt the ladies in the crowd and make the fellas just want to be you!
Noella, your voice is pure silk girl, luv your sound, and such phenomenal pipes you’ve got girl!
Both Nathan and Noella performed songs with a keyboard and had the crowd eating out of their hands. Noella’s original number originally written for her husband, but performed for the “For Mom” segment, was the most touching.
Stealing the show with her number Ave Maria by Beyonce, Noella had every single one of the audience on the edge of our seats until the very last note!
In the end, it was so close. Down to a 5 votes difference…
and the winner of Undiscovered Edmonton 2009 is…..
Noella Olynyk
2nd Place: Nathan Brown
3rd Place: Jessica McLean
You guys were absolutely amazing! Thank you all for the great performances!
Luved it!
And if that was not enough, Shawna-Lynne Myers from Cooper Studios had a few suprise announcements before the final winners were announced.
A $500+ scholarship for a one song recording for our beloved Vanessa Oller who was eliminated way too soon.
An opening gig with CHIQ Addiction for Nathan Brown.
A duet project for Nathan Brown & Vanessa Oller.
The Top 6 performers will get to perform for the HMV Christmas Showcase in West Edmonton Mall.
The Top 6 performers will perform for the Shawna-Lynne’s annual event with the Stollery Children’s hospital.
And…. I saved the best for last….
Yours truly was offered the opportunity to open for Shawna-Lynne Myers for her season next year with the backing of Shawna’s band to boot! The opportunity to work one on one with Shawna-Lynne, some co-writing and helping myself as well as the top 6 performers with how to promote ourselves, our stage work, etc…. Christmas has come early for this gal.
If there is anything I missed, my apologies.
I just really want to thank everyone who has been a part of this competition.
I never imagined on May 13th, when I sang All-Canadian Girl that 10 weeks later this would be happenning to me!
Charlie, thank you so much! Shawna-Lynne, Undiscovered, Judges, and most of all, Fans – everyone’s fans, thank you guys so much! Without you, we’d have no one to do all this for, so thank you for coming out!
Love Bomb! It’s raining out there, go get some for yourself! ![]()

Missed it by just 2 votes…
by pauline on Jul.31, 2009, under Undiscovered
Hello everyone! I have been remiss again – I do apologize. I was sans computer til today, so I could not pass on this information.
I almost made it to the finals… I missed it by 2 votes. Alas, this is simply how the cookie crumbles – but it was sure a yummy cookie while it lasted! :p
If you missed it, my song selections were:
What I Cannot Change – LeAnn Rimes
Before He Cheats – Carrie Underwood
A Moment Like This – Leona Lewis
I gave it all I had and really did a good job on the first two, the last one, I still have some more work to do. There is a great deal to learn about balancing a delicate yet powerful song – you gotta know, I love a challenge!
I have to thank Charlie for getting me the Louiseville Slugger baseball bat, leather gloves and picture frame for the Carrie Underwood number – I didn’t think a wooden picture frame could break apart into so many pieces!!! LOL. Yes if you didn’t make it out, you missed me smashing the picture frame with a bat – so much fun!!!
So officially, I can say that I was in the final 4. LOL.
I have to thank everyone that has been apart of this incredibly fun and awesome ride and congratulate Nathan, Noella and Jessica on making it through to the next round!
You all rock! Rhyse, Khaled – huge love shout to you guys!
I want to thank everyone who made it out to cheer me on and support me!
Huge shout out to Esther, Kenny, Carl, Miles, Marilyn, Loralee, Kessie, Shane, Tien, and the wonderful crew! Love you guys so much and thank you all!!
If you’re thinking this is curtains for this gal… you will be mistaken.
Next week, I will be singing our National Anthem – in case anyone has a line into singing the anthems for the Oilers I’d be ever so appreciative if you’d pass on the info – please and thank you! ![]()
Also, the top 6 will be performing at Churchill Square for Rock the Square on August 22nd. Time 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
I will be honest, I felt a brief moment of disappointment that I didn’t make it thru to the next round, but I knew from the get go that entering this competition was never about the win. The win would have been icing on the cake, but it was never the main focus. The main focus for me, was always about being able to do my thing -to simply BE. That is what I’m all about. My Be-ingness is about the music and the singing. It is the air that I breathe. It is what makes me tick. Trying to keep that hidden and buried inside me hurt so much it had to be let out.
If you’ve ever wondered or wished you could fly, this is what performing is like for me – I get to fly and feel what it is to be free.
I have gotten something far better than winning from these past 10 weeks. I’ve met some wonderful people, made some great friends and learned more about my craft and improved so much of it in just 10 weeks.
When I first got on stage and sang All Canadian Girl, I was just a singer, singing a song. Never in my mind did I think I would learn what it means to be a performer. I know I am a fresh newbie at it, and how grateful I am for this! I have learned what it is to actually perform a song and to invest everything into doing what I love.
Undiscovered, Charlie, Judges, Competitors, Friends and Fans – I owe this all to you!
I promise I won’t stop doing what I love and I will keep working, and I will keep going and make you all proud of how far I’ve come.
Love you all! <3
God Bless!

EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!!! I made it to Round 9!?! OMG!
by pauline on Jul.24, 2009, under Undiscovered
Girlie cyber-shriek to the 10th degree! You are entering a Hearing Protection Mandatory Zone!
First, let me apologize for not writing sooner – I had to take the day to let it sink in that I have made it through this far! Seriously, the elimination part was incredibly excruciating last night! When it was all over, I could easily have needed to be picked up off the floor! Can we say jaws dropping and deer in headlights, stunned?
I just want to send out a huge love shout to Doc J, Karella, Kelsey and Candice – sadly, we had to watch as all four were eliminated. I cannot tell you how shocked I was.
Doc: your voice is like velvet and you were one of my absolute favorite singers – along with Karella; this lady seriously gives Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney and all the BIG voices in music a serious run for their money! Deanne said it best last night when she asked Karella – who would write for her when she was so over qualified to sing Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love?” Karella: you are so amazing and unstoppable! Go get ‘em!
I cannot forget Kelsey – seriously girl – we were ALL THUNDERSTRUCK by your performances! And Candice – more wow’s all around – Christina, Celine, Martina, etc… – you kicked them all!
So I just want to really thank each and every one of them for being a part of the competition and making every single moment of this ride filled with the most amazing music and their fantastic voices!
Last night was a great opportunity to get back into my element as I sang Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name” and tried on a little “Unbreak My Heart” by Toni Braxton. I was really feeling both songs. I just want to say thank you to the dude who was the inspiration for the “Unbreak My Heart” song choice. aka “He Who Will Not Be Named” or HWWNBN. LOL!
– um… thx dude.
And… here I am… it’s down to the final 6 and we have 3 songs for next week as our numbers will be cut in half then! So I invite everyone out next week to The Docks In Londonderry Mall on Wednesday July 29th at 8 PM.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support me and all of us at The Docks!
Big shout out to Tamara, Daniel, Marilyn, Tim, Esther, Kenny, Karl, Pat, the amazing crew: Luke, Jami, Nate, Vanessa, Virgie, Rhyse & Tim; and our fabulous Host Charlie, the Handsome Mikey, Beautiful Laylah, Sizzling Sam, Talented Uber Hot Accented Crooner Julian (- just writing what the ladies were saying after your performance last nite!), and Super Sexy Deanne – last but not least, my generous shirt loaner (somewhere in E-town there is a guy missing a blue shirt from his closet… I promise I’ll bring it back
) and everyone who has come out, supported us and cheers us on!

by pauline on Jul.22, 2009, under Undiscovered
Hello everyone! I just got an email from Charlie that said 4 performers are going home tonight.
So, it’s really down to the wire and it is going to get pretty warm down at the Docks tonight.
So come on down and support your favorites and cheer us all on.
It’s been quite a week for me. Practicing my songs and that is pretty much all there is left to do.
So to everyone tonight, break a leg and let’s go get ‘em!
No matter how it all goes, I’m doing what I love and loving what I do – and that’s what it’s all about!
Huge love shout to everyone! See you tonight.

Undiscovered Edmonton Round 8
by pauline on Jul.16, 2009, under Undiscovered
There are 10 competitors left and I happen to be one that is still standing!
I cannot believe how everything has unfolded to date.
This competition has been the best ride I have ever been on – Charlie, thank you!!
Judges, thank you! Nate, thank you! Everyone who has been a part of this, thank you!
This week, we get to sing 2 songs, one that is our choice, and one that has to have won an award!
So my thinking cap is on and I am pouring through the lists Charlie has given us.
I will be going back to where I started from for my open song choice – a little bit of country so I can be back in my element again. I’ve been singing everything that is normally not what I sing – loving the challenge and how it has stretched me and my vocal abilities.
So come on out next week for yet another amazing night of entertainment!
July 22, 2009 @ the Docks in Londonderry – show starts around 8
There will also be an awards ceremony.
Thanks to everyone who has come out, who continues to support me and all of the competitors.

Undiscovered Edmonton Round 7….
by pauline on Jul.16, 2009, under Undiscovered
Last night was the best night so far and also one that left me completely dumbstruck.
First I have to thank my amazing duet partner, Nathan Brown for the best performance I have ever had!
We performed Fever and absolutely had a blast and totally got the crowd into it.
Every single performance was amazing!
Julian was back this week, and our judge trio was complete.
Tyler is a great addition to the panel and all the feedback from Julian, Deanne & Tyler was fantastic!
A shout out to Ray, Mary, Marilyn and the entire crew who came out! Thanks so much!!!
Mikey, Laylah, thank you so much for taking such good care of all of us!
At the end of the night, we all waited anxiously for the eliminations.
I was absolutely dumbstuck when we found out who was eliminated.
One of the most talented young ladies in the competition did not make it through.
It was just a few votes that would have made the difference here.
So, I’m sending out this love bomb for V – luv u girl! We all luv you!!! <3 <3 <3
Next weeks competition is going to be hawt!!!
by pauline on Jul.11, 2009, under Undiscovered
I am so excited about next week, I am so lucky to have gotten Nathan as my duet partner – how amazing is that!?! With duets and acapella up for next week, I have to say that I feel as though Christmas has come early for me!
The song that Nate picked – is a song that I have always wanted to do, but never thought of doing it as a duet – so right there, is one of my bucket list wishes fulfilled. Another one, is that I actually get to perform a duet with a very talented performer in his own right – bucket list wish, check.
Then there is the sweet bonus of next week being acapella performances – I love acapella music and I get the chance to sing another song in the purest way possible.
I won’t tell you the name of the song we’re doing – but be prepared for the temperature to rise next week as everyone will be bringing their very best and it is going to be so much fun!
I am choosing my acapella song as we speak!
Come down and cheer us on and vote for the ones you love best – and me too! ![]()

Undiscovered Edmonton Round 7!!!
by pauline on Jul.10, 2009, under Undiscovered
My apologies everyone, I have been away from the computer for over 48 hours and did not post, so I am making up for that right now.
First off, I have to say that Wednesday night was filled with absolutely spectacular performances by everyone left standing! It was wow after wow as everyone took to the stage and did fantastic.
Our new judge Tyler Ferrari got his feet wet along with Deanne and really gave great feedback to everyone as we each had to perform two songs.
I had an interesting night, my performances were ok, but I know that I could have done better.
I absolutely have to tip my hat to Karella who really kicked it with her MJ song! Karella girl, you are absolutely amazing!!! She totally stole the show!
Huge love shout & thanks goes out to everyone who came out to support me and cheer me on, Duncan, Donna, Kessie, Brenda, Dean, Allison, Tim, Kenny, Esther, you are all so awesome!
Can’t forget the amazing crew either, Rhyse, Vanessa, Virgie, Luke, Jamie – you all rock!
At the end of the night, it was left to the judges and the crowd votes. It was a nail biter for me as I didn’t have any access to the computer and remained clueless until Thursday around 10PM when I read a text from Charlie telling me that I had made it through, and telling me who my duet partner was.
Can we say woo hoo!!! Someone had to pick me up off the floor!!
So here I am, one of the final 12 left standing – Candice & Nathan are back thanks to Deanne & Julian using their passes to bring both of them back from the eliminations!
Next week is going to be amazing and it is these moments in my life that remind me of how lucky and blessed I really am – I get to do what I love, I get to meet and spend time with amazingly talented people, and all of these people have the most amazing hearts! You guys all rock! Judges, Charlie, friends & family mine & all those who have come out to cheer us all on, and everyone who has been on this ride with me – much luv to you all!!! and Thank you!
