The Proposal
by pauline on Aug.07, 2009, under What's Pauline Watching?
Went out last night to see The Proposal starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
If you’re a fan of chick flicks, you may need a tissue or two for this one.
Ryan Reynolds plays mild mannered overworked and tortured executive assistant to Sandra Bullock – aka Dragon lady editor in this movie.
I’m a huge fan of both actors and really enjoyed this cute romantic comedy.
I won’t say either of these roles with garner an academy award, but it was a great hour and a half immersion in what seemed like a comedy of errors at some points and a cute story with a happy ending.
If I were to give it a hanky rating, even though I liked it, it would get a three out of five. Basically, if it’s cheapie nite or it’s in the dollar theatres, absolutely go see it, otherwise, wait for the DVD, unless you are a die hard fan of Ryan Reynolds. His naked butt features in this movie along with Sandras. Meh, Ryan looked better in Blade 3.

Always Leaving with New Refrain
by pauline on Aug.05, 2009, under What's Pauline Writing?
Okay, after working with the lyrics for a few days and working on the tune, I had to add a refrain to the song.
Here is the updated version so far, and I am working out the music now.
Always Leaving
Thought that loving her would be enough to make her stay
Tried everything I could think of to make it all okay
But she just never let me in
Laying here beside her – I’m losing her again
She was my world, my life, the night sky
When she walked out the door, man did I cry
Told me she wanted her freedom
Couldn’t believe she’d look for it with him
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Walking around like a broken man
Hurting so bad, doing the best that I can
How could my angel fall down from the sky?
How could she turn on me overnight?
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Didn’t see it coming; her walking away
Guess I’m just a fool for believing that she’d stay
I could never shake the feeling that I didn’t have her heart
Looking back, I didn’t stand a chance right from the start
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
REFRAIN:
So I’m walkin around making like everything’s ok
Doing everything I can think of to make her pay
Still don’t change a thing…
She ain’t coming back this way…
So tell me…
How I’m supposed to live
When you were my everything?
Tell me what I’m supposed to do
Now that you’re never coming back again
Tell me how do you catch… the wind?

Always Leaving Lyrics
by pauline on Aug.04, 2009, under What's Pauline Writing?
It’s been one of those nights when the rain seems to be washing away some of the old hurts that I’ve been carrying around.
I was listening to Rascal Flatts tonight – and there’s just something about the music they write that always makes me spring a leak – guess I needed a good cry.
This is one of the main reasons I love country music. Out of any genre, it is country music that consistently has a way of speaking to my heart and moving me to tears.
It felt like a night of goodbye’s.
Sometimes we hold onto things, to people so tight and can’t seem to let them go.
And when they leave, it can tear your whole world apart. It can hurt so badly that we want to tear their world up as badly as they tore ours up.
That’s sometimes how life goes, but in the end, time heals all wounds if you want it to.
Sometimes we want to hang on to all the hurts just so that we can keep hiding from life and justify not letting anyone in again.
God gives us these moments to learn about love. You can’t know how great something is if you never know its opposite.
I believe that hearts are broken NOT to break you down, but to break you open.
So tonight, I wrote these new lyrics for a song called Always Leaving.
It’s dedicated to an old friend:
“I know you tried everything, it’s just that she was always leaving, even if you didn’t know it, even if she didn’t know it, that’s just how it is when you’re in love with someone who was always leaving. There’s no rhyme or reason, it was just two people who were equally broken trying to find their way. I know you’ll find your way. I’ll let them know up ahead, to light the way.”
Always Leaving
Thought that loving her would be enough to make her stay
Tried everything I could think of to make it all okay
But she just never let me in
Laying there beside her – I’m losing her again
She was my world, my life, the night sky
When she walked out the door, man did I cry
Told me she wanted her freedom
Couldn’t believe she’d look for it with him
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Walking around like a broken man
Hurting so bad, doing the best that I can
How could my angel fall down from the sky?
How could she turn on me overnight?
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Didn’t see it coming; her walking away
Guess I’m just a fool for believing she’d stay
I could never shake the feeling that I didn’t have her heart
Looking back, I didn’t stand a chance from the start
Tell me how I’m supposed to live

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
by pauline on Jul.27, 2009, under What's Pauline Watching?
Talk about a kid in a candy store! I absolutely LOVED Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. After watching the first movie, I finally realized that I want to BE a Transformer when I grow up! LOL.
Being the sci-fi, action movie loving gal that I am, this movie had my head reeling right from the start!
I can’t say much for the acting, this is Transformers after all, but I can definitely give a two thumbs up for all the action sequences, for the amazing graphics and wicked effects and absolute school girl glee over everything they exploaded in the movie! Oh yes, can’t forget, eye candy… Josh, Tyrese… – sorry fellas, I digress… anyways, I love it when things go KA BOOM! (I’m a huge fan of Mythbusters too! They’re always blowing stuff up!)
Kudos to Megan Fox – luv to see girls on bikes.
One day… if I ever manage to pass my Class 6, I’ll get my motorcycle license.
Until then, I can just dream about it.
So, if you like robots, things that go BOOM! and are into crazy scorpion robot chicks, and a reasonable attempt at a story, take Transformers for a spin!
As for me, I loved it, but that’s just me.
- Now, I can’t wait to see G.I. Joe – I have a thing for Channing Tatum – google him ladies, you’ll get it
Blink! The Power of Thinking without Thinking & Profiling
by pauline on Jun.24, 2009, under What's on Pauline's iPod?
I’m listening to Blink by Malcolm Gladwell right now. This book is about how people make assessements by “thin slicing” the first few seconds of an encounter to come up with a thought about it. This is where the entire notion of first impressions and love at first sight come into play.
Gladwell talks about how sometimes snap decisions can be just as good as deliberate and thought out ones. This book is really amazing if you want to understand more of the human mind and how it works.
I’m kind of a huge fan of psychology, the mind, metaphysics and learning how to profile people!
If you ever want to know more about what is available in Edmonton to learn about profiling and management of self & others, go check out this website – Results Now Inc. Blair & Melissa Dunkley are the best!
Blair can profile a person on practically any area of their life with about only 30 – 60 seconds of dialogue from them. Melissa is just as amazing and when they profile together it blows your mind!
If you want to get profiled, go check out their website – they have free intro sessions and will profile you if you want them to! So cool to watch, and Blair’s been getting at least 9/10’s from all the attendees on all the ones I’ve been out to this year!
Tell them I sent you! I am a former grad of their e-leadership program.
btw: Blair started me on reading/listening to Malcolm Gladwell’s books. If you are into the mind and how it works, Gladwell is one of the best writers on this subject area. I can’t wait to read Tipping Point – another great book.
Tales from Down the Rabbit Hole
by pauline on May.27, 2009, under Down the Rabbit Hole, Pauline Unplugged
Some cool prose that literally fell in my lap!
Tonight I venture into the darkness from whence I was once bourne.
This man who walks this earth – once called husband is a soul reborn.
“Child, this man is the same one – in times past, lives long gone,
he stole from you, spirit, flesh, and bone – such a life was torn.
All in a dance you both chose before your time on this earth, promise sworn.
Torn violently from you, this man once called you wife, even before this time of time.
In tempestuous rage he broke your life oath sworn.
I speak of a tale waiting for this day to finally be told.
Maiden fair, golden hair, eyes like the silver moon.
Stolen from another – kept as prize thought conquered.
When your love he could not turn, so enraged was he, bent, broken your body was torn.
From your flesh, heart still beating he so unburdened your fragile form.
Held in his hands, yet revenge on him from dying breath you forsworn.
This tale murderous and dark.
Contract written, learning undone.
Madness descended upon this twisted pair.
Time and again, paths crossed til they were well worn.
An unending cycle of depair.
Til a new Dawn.
Demon Maiden, Angel reborn.
Oaths broken, vows undone, contracts quit.
The price paid was worth the prize won.
Where breaking has gone on, so healing shall now be done.
Angels salve the wounds and now their voices ring clear.
Yours is to breathe the fresh air.
Light descending upon the shadows of night.
No more shall this past, this path endure.
Chords cut, your learning done, paths crossing repeat no more.
Freedom gifted, sweet release.
Man of this earth, Remember who blood-let first.
El Morya’s justice she has invoked.
Thor’s wrath you have provoked.
Nothing more can touch this Angel child.
Freedom Angel! you are prisoner no more.”

Star Trek Movie 2009
by pauline on May.14, 2009, under What's Pauline Watching?
The last movie that I saw at the theatres was Star Trek 2009.
As a follower of Star Trek the Original series, Star Trek the Next Generation, Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space 9, I anticipated the arrival of this movie with great glee!
What a new way to see James Tiberius Kirk beyond his Intergalactic Casanova gig! I also finally found out what Uhura’s first name was!
I’m a huge fan of anything sci-fi/futuristic, lots of explosions, good writing and I don’t mind good comedic timing either.
This movie had it all, and I really enjoyed it! I won’t spoil anything for those who haven’t watched the movie, but I would give it 4 stars out of 5. Â
The rating is not so much that the movie lacked anything, it’s more due to the fact that I really hate giving out perfect scores.
I always like to leave room for improvement.

Outliers – The Story of Success
by pauline on May.13, 2009, under What's on Pauline's iPod?
My iPod is loaded with country tunes by Dolly, Reba, Martina, LeAnn, Wynonna, Rascal Flatts, Jason Blaine, Gord Bamford, Taylor Swift, Chris Cagle, Tim McGraw, and Carrie Underwood to name a few.
It’s also packing a copy of Malcolm Gladwell’s audiobook, Outliers – The Story of Success.
I love music, I love audiobooks, and I’ve been a voracious consumer of non-fiction of late.
The golden nugget from Malcolm Gladwell’s book is the 10,000-Hour Rule.
Gladwell says that the key to success in any field has nothing to do with talent. It’s simply practice, 10,000 hours of it — 20 hours a week for 10 years.
As I’ve been singing since I was a little girl, I think I can attribute my vocal abilities to the fact that I have put in my 10,000 hours of practice over the years.
The Holographic Universe
by pauline on May.13, 2009, under What's Pauline Reading?
I like reading things that challenge my current perceptions of reality.
The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot takes quantum physics, holographic theory and even NDE’s and presents us with a new paradigm for reality.
What if this entire experience on the planet is really part of a giant holographic experience?
If you’re a Star Trek fan, think Holodeck.
If not, Answers.com defines it as: Holodeck (n.) [holo- + deck (of a spaceship)] a roomâ€sized chamber that creates a complete holographic environment.
All our senses tell us it’s real, but what if it is not?
So if you’re up for some thought provoking science that could be the next paradigm shift, pick this up and take it for a spin!
Happy Reading!
P.
