Blink! The Power of Thinking without Thinking & Profiling
by pauline on Jun.24, 2009, under What's on Pauline's iPod?
I’m listening to Blink by Malcolm Gladwell right now. This book is about how people make assessements by “thin slicing” the first few seconds of an encounter to come up with a thought about it. This is where the entire notion of first impressions and love at first sight come into play.
Gladwell talks about how sometimes snap decisions can be just as good as deliberate and thought out ones. This book is really amazing if you want to understand more of the human mind and how it works.
I’m kind of a huge fan of psychology, the mind, metaphysics and learning how to profile people!
If you ever want to know more about what is available in Edmonton to learn about profiling and management of self & others, go check out this website – Results Now Inc. Blair & Melissa Dunkley are the best!
Blair can profile a person on practically any area of their life with about only 30 – 60 seconds of dialogue from them. Melissa is just as amazing and when they profile together it blows your mind!
If you want to get profiled, go check out their website – they have free intro sessions and will profile you if you want them to! So cool to watch, and Blair’s been getting at least 9/10’s from all the attendees on all the ones I’ve been out to this year!
Tell them I sent you! I am a former grad of their e-leadership program.
btw: Blair started me on reading/listening to Malcolm Gladwell’s books. If you are into the mind and how it works, Gladwell is one of the best writers on this subject area. I can’t wait to read Tipping Point – another great book.
Outliers – The Story of Success
by pauline on May.13, 2009, under What's on Pauline's iPod?
My iPod is loaded with country tunes by Dolly, Reba, Martina, LeAnn, Wynonna, Rascal Flatts, Jason Blaine, Gord Bamford, Taylor Swift, Chris Cagle, Tim McGraw, and Carrie Underwood to name a few.
It’s also packing a copy of Malcolm Gladwell’s audiobook, Outliers – The Story of Success.
I love music, I love audiobooks, and I’ve been a voracious consumer of non-fiction of late.
The golden nugget from Malcolm Gladwell’s book is the 10,000-Hour Rule.
Gladwell says that the key to success in any field has nothing to do with talent. It’s simply practice, 10,000 hours of it — 20 hours a week for 10 years.
As I’ve been singing since I was a little girl, I think I can attribute my vocal abilities to the fact that I have put in my 10,000 hours of practice over the years.
