by pauline on May.11, 2010, under blog
Hello Everyone!
It would appear that I have advanced to week 2 of Undiscovered Edmonton 2010, Season 2.
I decided to open the competition with a song by Beyonce – Listen from the Dreamgirls soundtrack.
According to Nathan Brown, last season’s second prize winner, it was a bit of a surprise.
I must send a love shout out to the crew from A Bookworm’s Tale that so graciously drove in from as far as Hay Lakes to cheer me on last week! I love you guys so much! Cara, Natasha, Matthew, Neil, Loralee, Shane, Mark, everyone, thank you sooo much!!! <3 <3 <3
Also, I should be getting a copy of the movie, Money some time as it should have wrapped post production by now.
I am also working on a proposal for a debut album. If anyone knows of investors, angel investors, etc…. to help with my first album, please contact me!
I will also be opening the Edmonton Energy Mens Basketball Season opener with the American & Canadian Anthems. Come on out and cheer on our local mens team and enjoy some great b-ball!!
I am excited and looking forward to Week 2 of Undiscovered. For those who would like to come out and cheer me on, as well as vote for me, the next show will be May 20th, 7 PM at The Pawn Shop on Whyte Ave.

Let the music play on…
by pauline on Jan.18, 2010, under blog
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEk!!!!!! Yes, again, another cyber-girlie shriek. I seem to have so many occasions where they are just plain necessary!
I just got back from the first read through of A Bookworm’s Tale with most of the cast in attendance. So exciting!!! My first musical! How cool!
I have been cast as Miss Holly in this production and am quite excited about this opportunity to work with some amazing people and the upcoming talent in Edmonton.
I auditioned the musical piece, I Dreamed a Dream – yes, the same song that lead to all that Susan Boyle fame.
It’s been so long since I connected with my early opera and classical training.
Don’t worry people, I am still singing what I love – country of course, it just so happens that I can sing most musical genres and enjoy stretching my repertoire as a way to improve my overall technique.
The music plays on, the show must go on, and as I have been so deeply aware of, life must and does go on.
I thank God in my prayers again tonight and know that life consipires for me and with me for my greater good. I learn from my mistakes, and take the lesson and take another step forward.
If you can dream it, it can happen to YOU! So my wish for everyone out there, pick a dream (make it a good one! fill it with love and give yourself permission to have that dream for yourself)
Dreams can and do come true. Everyday I get to witness the truth of this. So go and get your dream(s)!
God Bless,

The latest…
by pauline on Jan.15, 2010, under blog
Hello Everyone!
It’s been a hectic week or so. Last week was the first rehersal for the month end fundraiser. That went well. Today was the second rehersal – looks like I’ll be stepping out of the country box and singing a musical number plus one or two country numbers for the January 30th show at the Sands Hotel on Fort Road in Edmonton, AB – The Renata Room – Doors open at 7:00 PM Show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are only $5.
Just yesterday I had an audition for another commercial at the Best Western Cedar Park Inn. That went well. I have to say that everyone at any of my auditions have been absolutely fantastic!
Then, today, I had an audition for A Bookworm’s Tale with Gilbert Allan & Cara Albo. What a blast – this duo has partnered up for a two act musical production that will make the community – heck, the city proud! I did my first monologue today, and dusted off my classical/operatic pipes and sang “I dreamed a dream” from Les Miserables. What a change of pace – and what a pleasant surprise – I can still hit those notes.
Regardless of the outcome of my auditions, I have to admit that it’s been a great opportunity to try new things and to just go for it.
It would seem that 2010 has a few surprises in store – I love surprises, don’t you?
For all of you out there who have been watching, supporting and cheering me on, I wish all of you the best 2010 possible. If experience has taught me anything, it is simply this: if you’re passionate about it, and it’s something that you want, and if it will bring more life to you and/or others, then GO FOR IT!
I’m going to make this my Nike year, you know their slogan, “Just Do it!”
Love Bomb!

Hello everyone! I just wrapped filming on a video for Alberta Agriculture and have submitted for a few more screen projects!
Life has been like a whirling dervish – all over the place and it’s been such a wild ride!
News on the music front, I’ll be heading back into the studio to work on songs for the HMV Christmas stage in December with Cooper Studios. I am so looking forward to that!
I’m also headed into the studio to do a recording here in the next couple of weeks.
So life is clipping along, the acting roles have been landing on my doorstep, and the great part of everything – they’re all paid work!
I just finished working with Shadowland Productions and it was an amazing experience! I have to thank God and my lucky stars for all the wonderful things that have popped in as of late.
Sending you all a huge love bomb – everyone who has been on this ride with me, thank you all so much for your loving support and encouragement! I’ll make you all proud yet!

Belated Birthday blog…
by pauline on Sep.18, 2009, under blog
Hello Everyone,
I apologize that it has been so quiet on this end.
The first meeting with Shawna-Lynn and Cooper Studios is next week and the Top 6 plus Vanessa Kay will be getting down to the planning of the HMV Christmas show at West Edmonton Mall.
As for me, I’ve been prepping and doing some background work for a movie that started filming the first week of September.
It is certainly something I’m very new to and it so so incredibly exciting to be a part of a movie!!
Yesterday was my birthday – as for how many times around this rock I’ve made it, I’ll leave that for you all to take your guesses! ![]()
Being back in E-Town has been quite the change, but a welcome change!
Tonight I’m headed out to celebrate the finale of Dodgeball Season with my team – The Wrench Dodgers! It’s been a lot of fun, and I have determined that I can dodge a ball!
As for an update for Undiscovered Season 2010, Charlie Mrech is already busy with the planning and preparations for the next season!
For anyone who is waiting for the next season, I promise I’ll keep you updated as I get the news.
I am really looking forward to getting back together with the crew from Undiscovered 2009 and looking forward to the shows that we will be putting together for Christmas and also for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Fundraiser.
Thank you everyone for your continued support! So check back for the latest news soon!
Love you guys! <3

Rock the Square et al…
by pauline on Aug.25, 2009, under Undiscovered
Saturday at Churchill Square was not quite what I expected…
In the mid afternoon, the square was pretty empty.
With so many festivals and events happenning in town, it should have come as no surprise.
Needless to say, it was still a lot of fun and it was also a great opportunity to hear Nathan Brown and Vanessa Kay perform their long anticipated duet.
Singing Hometown Glory, Nathan and Vanessa charmed the onlookers in Churchill Square with their stellar vocals!
The stage just loves these two – for those of you who do not know, Vanessa was eliminated way too early from the Undiscovered competition, and Nathan was the second place winner in the competition.
These two not only are the picture perfect duet, they also sound it! Can’t wait to hear more from these two vocal prodigies – I kid you not!
On the stage as well on Saturday, Ana Bogdanov with a triple play acoustic session. Loved it!
Khaled Rahime, Rhyse Reyes, Nathan Brown and yours truly rounding out the roster that afternoon.
Oh yes, and a shout out to the host of the event and of Undiscovered Edmonton – Charlie Mrech!
Despite some technical difficulties, it was a great opportunity to sing on an open stage in a large venue.
Thanks to the Rock the Square event and to everyone who was a part of the event.
Also a shoutout to Allison & Kessie for coming down and cheering us all on! Love u guys!
I think even the pigeons enjoyed the show!
As for me, I’m going through some major changes in the next while, but I will keep everyone updated with what is new and exciting via the blog.
Oh yes, I have to send a shout out to my friends Shannon & Darren – I had a great time at their place Saturday nite and even got to do a few impromptu songs with the band they hired for the nite! So much fun!

A look back…
by pauline on Aug.11, 2009, under blog
It’s been almost a week since the culmination of Undiscovered Edmonton 2009. It has taken me this long to really let everything settle and sink in, and I have to say that thanks to my friend Rich, I realize now how I got here.
Some people may say that I got through the 10 weeks in the competition based on luck, there may be a small bit of truth to this, however I believe that it was really a case of preparation meets opportunity.
Upon reflecting on what had transpired over the course of the competition, I mentioned to my buddy Rich that I really believe that the success formula was the key to how I got as far as I did.
For the uninitiated, the success formula is: passion + commitment = success
Now I really thought that I had this figured out until Capt. Awesome aka Rich mentioned that I forgot one key ingredient.
Want to know what that is?
…….
………….
……………….
…………………………………..
it’s ACTION!
When Rich said this to me, I almost fell over. Lightning bolt to the head!
I realize that what really got me as far as I got was really: passion + commitment + action = success
So, here it is ladies and gentleman. In a nutshell, the only formula you will ever need in your life to create success in anything that you want.
PASSION + COMMITMENT + ACTION = SUCCESS
How does this translate to my singing, well I can tell you honestly that I have always been passionate about singing. It is truly my first love – with writing as a very close second. I repeat, singing is like breathing for me. Yet I had never committed to it. I had taken some action – entered a few competitions, and approached it like a hobby, but I never actually started to commit to it until this year. I actually buckled down and did a 10 week run with Undiscovered Edmonton. Never before had I been tested with anything like this. Never before had I committed to anything like this. What a gift it was for me to do this for me. Then, add in the action component – I worked hard on my songs, I listened to the feedback of all the judges, I listened to my wonderful friend Nate, and I put in the time and the work. Every day I get up and go through a series of vocal exercises to strengthen and train my voice. Every day, I work on how to use my diaphraghm to support my breath and expand my lung capacity. I say “yes” when opportunity comes knocking and I do the do.
So, although it seems like everything is happenning quickly and doors are opening up, I want to say that I am ready. I continue to prepare, and I am ready for all the opportunities that come my way. As long as I am still doing this for the love of it, I can’t go wrong. I am very clear on what I’m about and what I want as an end result. At the end of the day, I am doing it for the fans. So thank you everyone for coming on the ride with me, and if you’re not a fan yet, I hope by my passion, commitment and work, I will gain you as one in the future!

The finale…with a few suprises!
by pauline on Aug.06, 2009, under Undiscovered
The last night of Undiscovered Edmonton was phenomenal.
Noella, Nathan and Jessica were all at the top of their game and brought the most amazing performances to date to the stage at the Docks.
Jessica with her varied outfit changes and moves were total crowd pleasers.
Nathan, ah, what can we say, Nathan your voice as always never fails to melt the ladies in the crowd and make the fellas just want to be you!
Noella, your voice is pure silk girl, luv your sound, and such phenomenal pipes you’ve got girl!
Both Nathan and Noella performed songs with a keyboard and had the crowd eating out of their hands. Noella’s original number originally written for her husband, but performed for the “For Mom” segment, was the most touching.
Stealing the show with her number Ave Maria by Beyonce, Noella had every single one of the audience on the edge of our seats until the very last note!
In the end, it was so close. Down to a 5 votes difference…
and the winner of Undiscovered Edmonton 2009 is…..
Noella Olynyk
2nd Place: Nathan Brown
3rd Place: Jessica McLean
You guys were absolutely amazing! Thank you all for the great performances!
Luved it!
And if that was not enough, Shawna-Lynne Myers from Cooper Studios had a few suprise announcements before the final winners were announced.
A $500+ scholarship for a one song recording for our beloved Vanessa Oller who was eliminated way too soon.
An opening gig with CHIQ Addiction for Nathan Brown.
A duet project for Nathan Brown & Vanessa Oller.
The Top 6 performers will get to perform for the HMV Christmas Showcase in West Edmonton Mall.
The Top 6 performers will perform for the Shawna-Lynne’s annual event with the Stollery Children’s hospital.
And…. I saved the best for last….
Yours truly was offered the opportunity to open for Shawna-Lynne Myers for her season next year with the backing of Shawna’s band to boot! The opportunity to work one on one with Shawna-Lynne, some co-writing and helping myself as well as the top 6 performers with how to promote ourselves, our stage work, etc…. Christmas has come early for this gal.
If there is anything I missed, my apologies.
I just really want to thank everyone who has been a part of this competition.
I never imagined on May 13th, when I sang All-Canadian Girl that 10 weeks later this would be happenning to me!
Charlie, thank you so much! Shawna-Lynne, Undiscovered, Judges, and most of all, Fans – everyone’s fans, thank you guys so much! Without you, we’d have no one to do all this for, so thank you for coming out!
Love Bomb! It’s raining out there, go get some for yourself! ![]()

Always Leaving with New Refrain
by pauline on Aug.05, 2009, under What's Pauline Writing?
Okay, after working with the lyrics for a few days and working on the tune, I had to add a refrain to the song.
Here is the updated version so far, and I am working out the music now.
Always Leaving
Thought that loving her would be enough to make her stay
Tried everything I could think of to make it all okay
But she just never let me in
Laying here beside her – I’m losing her again
She was my world, my life, the night sky
When she walked out the door, man did I cry
Told me she wanted her freedom
Couldn’t believe she’d look for it with him
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Walking around like a broken man
Hurting so bad, doing the best that I can
How could my angel fall down from the sky?
How could she turn on me overnight?
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Didn’t see it coming; her walking away
Guess I’m just a fool for believing that she’d stay
I could never shake the feeling that I didn’t have her heart
Looking back, I didn’t stand a chance right from the start
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything?
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
REFRAIN:
So I’m walkin around making like everything’s ok
Doing everything I can think of to make her pay
Still don’t change a thing…
She ain’t coming back this way…
So tell me…
How I’m supposed to live
When you were my everything?
Tell me what I’m supposed to do
Now that you’re never coming back again
Tell me how do you catch… the wind?

Always Leaving Lyrics
by pauline on Aug.04, 2009, under What's Pauline Writing?
It’s been one of those nights when the rain seems to be washing away some of the old hurts that I’ve been carrying around.
I was listening to Rascal Flatts tonight – and there’s just something about the music they write that always makes me spring a leak – guess I needed a good cry.
This is one of the main reasons I love country music. Out of any genre, it is country music that consistently has a way of speaking to my heart and moving me to tears.
It felt like a night of goodbye’s.
Sometimes we hold onto things, to people so tight and can’t seem to let them go.
And when they leave, it can tear your whole world apart. It can hurt so badly that we want to tear their world up as badly as they tore ours up.
That’s sometimes how life goes, but in the end, time heals all wounds if you want it to.
Sometimes we want to hang on to all the hurts just so that we can keep hiding from life and justify not letting anyone in again.
God gives us these moments to learn about love. You can’t know how great something is if you never know its opposite.
I believe that hearts are broken NOT to break you down, but to break you open.
So tonight, I wrote these new lyrics for a song called Always Leaving.
It’s dedicated to an old friend:
“I know you tried everything, it’s just that she was always leaving, even if you didn’t know it, even if she didn’t know it, that’s just how it is when you’re in love with someone who was always leaving. There’s no rhyme or reason, it was just two people who were equally broken trying to find their way. I know you’ll find your way. I’ll let them know up ahead, to light the way.”
Always Leaving
Thought that loving her would be enough to make her stay
Tried everything I could think of to make it all okay
But she just never let me in
Laying there beside her – I’m losing her again
She was my world, my life, the night sky
When she walked out the door, man did I cry
Told me she wanted her freedom
Couldn’t believe she’d look for it with him
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Walking around like a broken man
Hurting so bad, doing the best that I can
How could my angel fall down from the sky?
How could she turn on me overnight?
CHORUS:
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
Tell me, how do you catch the wind?
Didn’t see it coming; her walking away
Guess I’m just a fool for believing she’d stay
I could never shake the feeling that I didn’t have her heart
Looking back, I didn’t stand a chance from the start
Tell me how I’m supposed to live
When she was my everything
Tell me how to catch someone
When she’s always leaving
